I shared my word of the year recently and I’m sticking to it! I’ll be spending more time putting my focus on family, healthier lifestyle choices and being present in everything that I do with limited distractions. This won’t necessarily be an easy task, but our little family is determined to make 2017 our most exciting year yet (and healthiest). With a 2 year old and 1 month old it’s important for this mama to make wise decisions when it comes to food not just for my family but for myself as well. If I want to keep up with my boys, run around and not feel that crash from bad foods I have to make a bit of a lifestyle change this year. It’s a new year and a year for a better Melissa… a healthier more active Melissa.
If you’re a regular Melissa Creates reader it’s no secret I have a crush on breakfast. wink. Kick starting the day (and new year) with the best breakfast options is a must for me and the family. We each have our favorite breakfast items and are determined to make better choices in 2017 and stick to them. You’ll rarely find us sitting around as we prefer to be on the go and with a very active toddler it just makes sense to be more cautious of how we begin our day in the kitchen. My 2 year old is a snacker so I always have a healthier snack option available for him, but when it doubles as something the entire family can add to the breakfast mix it’s a total win! Grab the very simple breakfast blueberry oat bites details below.
As I have mentioned many times I’m a big cereal and breakfast fan, like big time. What I love about Post cereal is that they offer a variety of options that are favorites for everyone in my family. Kicking off the day with a spoonful of goodness is just smart thinking!
I’m typically hungry before lunch time, but with 23 grams of whole gran and 8 grams of fiber in Post Cereals Raisin Bran I feel full a bit longer which is a win when trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Did you know every box is filled with hundreds of Sun-Maid California raisins? Whoa.
I tend to keep Shredded Wheat on hand because it’s a wholesome breakfast recommended by 9/10 doctors to reduce heart disease (with facts like that you simply must have a box on hand). You’ll also spot Grape Nuts in my kitchen not only because it’s one of my all time favorites but because it’s a morning staple, and has been for over 100 years! During your next Walmart visit grab these staple cereals to keep on hand, friends. Grab some more recipe ideas here too!
To add to the greatness Post cereal offers to kick-start the day properly I’ve whipped up a simple blueberry oat treat that can be paired with cereal or added to your favorite cereals. It’s delicious, easy to make, can be made into tiny bites or used as an ‘sprinkle accent’ and sprinkled over breakfast items. There really isn’t a reason to not have this on hand. Grab the recipe details below!
1/2 cup of blueberries
1/2 cup of peanut butter
2 cups of oats
A drizzle or two of honey
Combine all ingredients. Be sure to blend as much as possible as the mixture will begin to stick together and not spread evenly without a bit of effort.
Place in a small baking dish and freeze for 4-8 hours.
Remove and cut out. The blueberry oat treat will break apart and some pieces will stay together in bite sizes, making it the perfect morning treat to have as is or topped onto your favorite cereal or breakfast items.
If this photo doesn’t say toddler was here I don’t know what does. ha! We love how much he enjoys good options and fruit. What kind of spoonful of goodness choices will you be making this new year?
